Lion's Vault Module for 5th Edition D&D & Pathfinder RPG

Created by 2CGaming

Lion’s Vault is the third chapter of the Fate of the Forebears Adventure Path, beginning immediately after the close of City of Sands module. The players must now venture out into the desert wastes of the Mirrored Steppes to uncover the secrets of an ancient city in ruins. Characters must withstand an ever-present corruption that feasts on their will, while they race treasure hunters and bandits through trapped-filled ruins to find the corruption’s source, an unspeakable horror protected by an ageless guardian.

Finishing Lion's Vault: Project Delays, Content Updates, and Finishing the Adventure Path
over 6 years ago – Sat, Dec 09, 2017 at 01:03:09 AM

Good news first!

Our head writer, Chris Grey ,has finished his written draft of the entire Lion's Vault story arc! Our next steps in this project will involve going over the draft with a fine toothed comb to ensure our design goals and attention to detail are satisfactory. According to our design philosophy, this will ensure the adventure has the following properties:

  • A compelling and level appropriate story for 7th-9th level characters, with significant stakes and plot elements that cannot be resolved with a single spell cast.
  • Challenging encounters with 2CGaming's system for scaling difficulty. This includes unique and powerful monsters and traps never before seen in other 5th Edition and Pathfinder products, such as the mighty Desert Naga!
Someone is having a difficult day.
Someone is having a difficult day.
  • Treasures and rewards for dedicated players who explore every nook and cranny. Of particular interest is our focus on exploring the history of the powerful Narthaneen. This information will intrigue loremasters and provide insight into powerful enemies.

As the adventure path starts getting into high level territory, some pitfalls make themselves apparent that we have to watch out for. A big part of this review process of the story/encounters is to prevent players with high level abilities from solving what are supposed to be significant problems too easily. This means we have to think very carefully about what kind of magic items we make available, the structure of the environments we create, and the nature of the obstacles players face. As much as we love spells like banishment or the ability to teleport vast distances, it does have a tendency to make certain things a bit too easy. Expect this adventure to limit the effectiveness of some of these features, but not make them completely impotent.

The Bad News: 1 Month Project Delay

There is no easy to way to say it and we are sorry that we must. In order to maintain our quality standards, we are going to delay the project by 1 month. This means that instead of by the end of December, the delivery date for Lion's Vault will be the end of January. We apologize to those we have disappointed, but we feel very strongly that we could not deliver on our promised quality standards to you if we kept our December deadline. The delays are due to unforeseen scheduling and availability complications in our production lineup, but we are confident in our ability to properly adjust the development schedule and deliver on everything you backers deserve.

If you have questions or concerns about the delay, please feel free to message us via Kickstarter. You can also chat us directly via our Discord chat (Link Here).

Plans for 2018: Finishing Fate of the Forebears

Moving into 2018, we have some exciting news to share with you! Provided we are able to keep with our adjusted schedule, we plan on Kickstarting and delivering the ENTIRE remainder of the Fate of the Forebears Adventure Path (which will include parts 4, 5, and 6) for a climatic ending to the epic adventure. As we move to the second half of this project, 2CGaming is focusing on creating an awesome set of campaigns that will reward our longtime fans of the series and delight new comers!

November Update
over 6 years ago – Sat, Nov 04, 2017 at 12:47:31 AM

Sorry for the delay in getting this update out, it's been a busy last few days! Here's the important stuff: Chris Grey is hard at work putting the finishing touches on the core writing of Lion's Vault, and we're on track for delivery next month! We're expecting digital delivery in late December and print delivery about 3-4 weeks after that.

There's not too much more to say beyond that! We've all got our heads buried in our work here, so I'll just touch on a few cool upcoming events and then get back to the grindstone!

PAX: Unplugged - 2CGaming will have a booth and we'll be running events! Sign up for our "Let's Kill Strahd" game and play in a game run by Chris Grey, or just swing by the booth and say hello!

Epic Legacy - 2CGaming's other workaholic writer, Ryan Servis, is currently managing our newest kickstarter for a project that he's been working on for over two years. Epic Legacy brings 21st to 30th level to 5th Edition and if that has you intrigued, you should check it out: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2cgaming/epic-legacy-core-rulebook-5th-edition-beyond-20th?ref=user_menu

Barring any unforeseen issues, our next update will be posted in early December and we'll have more definite delivery dates for digital and physical copies of Lion's Vault! I'm going to get some sleep, then it's back to writing.

Behind the Curtain - First Month!
over 6 years ago – Mon, Oct 02, 2017 at 09:41:16 PM

Hello everyone! Chris has been hard at work designing a devious dungeon to thrill and terrify a party of heroes (and the players too!), but he's currently traveling so I'm stepping in to write a quick update in his stead.

If you haven't backed on our Kickstarter campaigns before, after the campaign concludes we post monthly updates to give you some insights into how the project is coming along. We'll share artwork, samples of work in progress, and let you know if any issues have come up.

Our big focus in the last month has been on writing, with Chris Grey taking the lead and the rest of us trying to keep up with his fast pace.

Writing

Chris has already put down 12,000 words on the first draft of Lion's Vault, and that number is only going up! We've had several meetings among the team to discuss the module's overall design, and come up with some devious tricks and very cool scenes that I wish I could tell you all about right now.

Act 1 involves a journey into the deep desert and some familiar landmarks from the Domes of Ishaq-Zahur. It's always fun to callback to early adventures, and your players might even encounter some would-be tomb robbers who are disappointed that the Preist-King's riches have already been plundered.

This adventure will delve even more deeply into the backstory of the Narthaneen and establish a major villain who the players will face off against in module four. If you're a fan of settings and unusual locations, you're going to find a lot to love in Lion's Vault.

I'm going to keep this update pretty brief, Chris will be back in a few days and in future updates he can tell you directly about how his work is going! So far, everything is on track and we aren't expecting any delays.

With City of Sands we saw the project grow tremendously, the final book is about 50% larger than we planned, but we're doing our best to make a better initial estimate for Lion's Vault. If this project experiences similar growth, it may slow us down a bit, but you'll get more content to make up for it!

That's all for this month! Thanks for reading, go play some games!

BackerKit Live!
over 6 years ago – Wed, Sep 13, 2017 at 10:01:10 PM

Let's Manage Some Pledges!

If you haven't joined us for a Kickstarter campaign before, we use BackerKit as our pledge manager of choice. It helps us coordinate shipping, take additional orders, and has a help desk! As of this update, you should have received emails from Backerkit to your email address associated with your Kickstarter account inviting you to take the survey. If you did not receive this email, reach out to us here on Kickstarter and we'll make sure you get access to BackerKit!

Through BackerKit you can add-on our other products at a 10% discount, grab the earlier adventures in the Fate of the Forebears series, or pick up extra copies of Lion's Vault for either edition. You can also modify your pledge to add items like the digital game assets (tokens, music, maps, etc.).

As part of making the Fate of the Forebears Adventure Path, additional support we raise through BackerKit goes into the next module in the series - tentatively titled Zahur's Legacy. The funding you helped us raise for City of Sands let us create the cover artwork, tokens, some illustrations, and a track of music for Lion's Vault!

Dive on in, fill out your survey, and we'll get busy making this adventure a reality! Thank you again for supporting the project, it's been a delight to work on and once Lion's Vault is complete, we'll have half an Adventure Path finished!
